Chapter 3 • Crested Butte

Internet is tricky "on the road"
...plus I've got "millions of photos.
The house The Boss won in CB (New Year's Eve raffle)
Wildflowers are coming up...
Mountain Lupines
(The) Crested Butte...
...at last light.
The Boss rides his bike thru town.
On a bridge over raging Spring run-off.
Rode up and a bit over...
Kebler / Ohio passes
Counting my blessings that I got this far!!!
Enjoy!

Kauai Vacation Draws to an End

Only a few days are left of The Boss's annual vacation.
The weather is mostly cloudy and windy.
I'm going to hit you w/a lot of photos...
But first let's start with "the normal state of affairs"...

The Boss watching TV. Miss Bloggette taking photos

Our last Monday's adventure was a "walk" down to the "Queen's Bath."

Pretty stream on the way down the cliff

The Queen's Bath (wish I had my bathing suit!)

Our last full day dawns......

Final Sunrise

Our BIG event of the day was the evening Luau at the Mediterranean Gourmet.
...held in a small restaurant, it was a PERFECT ending!!

The restaurant was situated on the beach.

The Boss wore his new Hawaiian shirt.

A small portion of the Luau buffet

Dancing and singing throughout

Graceful dancer

Tahitian style

Grand finale Fire dancer

Time to head home.
Had to checkout @ 11am...but flight was @ 10 pm!!
How we "killed the day"...
It was windy, and the surf was up...

Surfing beach as we slowly made our way to Lihue

Had a delightful lunch @ Caffé Coco

Checked out an authentic Hawaiian Quilting store.

Watched the Locals catch some waves in Kalapaki Bay

....and find of all finds: Had dinner at a real down-home local Saimin joint.

It was crowded...

...and it was GOOD!

That's it folks!!!
Hope you've enjoyed the blog!!
Another "bonus photo" below,
....which I have since learned are not permanently attached.

OMG!...the lower 48!

Strong Trade Winds Blow in Unexpected Adventures

The winds have kicked up, so spending an entire day on the beach seems out.
Went to the Hanalei Farmer's Market and watched a local jeweler string delicate, native-to-Kauai shells.
David was thrilled to find truly local food at one stand.

Miss Bloggette bought a single strand of multi-colored shells.
The Boss bought earrings as a gift.

....and now I'm going to string along a whole bunch of photos!

Curried Tofu made by 2 "local ladies" from Bali.

Miss Bloggette had Balinese Chicken.

It was windy and we opted for the pool...

Windy Palms

Sunday (Father's Day) also brought windy conditions...
So we headed off to the southernmost and the westernmost sides of Kauai.

Miss Bloggette almost got blown over taking this picture.

David on the southern tip of the island.

Jumped in the car and discovered an "ancient" Japanese cemetery.

Moss-covered, weather-worn tombstones.

Headed to Poipu...where most of the resorts are.
Had a great lunch @ The Beach House on Lawai Bay.

The unbelievably beautiful view at lunch.

Best, whitest swordfish The Boss has ever had!

....and we're off to the westernmost "Barking Sands Beach"...
but as advertised, the only way in was 5 miles of washboard...
So we turned around and hit every local's beach we encountered...
All packed with native Hawaiians celebrating Father's Day with friends and families.

David made friends with these guys and we shared food and laughs.

A portion of Salt Pond Beach.

Westside beach near where Captain Cook landed.

Visited the Kauai Coffee Company and did some sampling.

Interesting: How coffee is "made"

Oh, why not cruise Lihue (the main city)..
Oh, why not check out Cafe Portofino (at the Marriott) where The Boss has connections...
OMG....WHAT A PLACE!

The pool at the Marriott (Evening)
Kalapaki Beach @ the Marriott

Incredible View from Cafe Portofino @ the Marriott

Unplanned!! David meets up with the ABQ friends!

AND NOW LET'S END with the ubiquitous roosters that inhabit Kauai.

Another Day, Another Beach

Saturday 6/16 morning's sunrise included the moon and 2 planets...

Look closely

Pink cloud and morning moon

Thursday was Hanalei Bay day...excellent swimming here.
...a beach with 2 personalities.

Looking towards the pier
Looking towards the Napali coast

Yesterday was Tunnels Beach...known for good snorkeling.
The day was a bit overcast, so the beach wasn't as crowded as usual.
Miss Bloggette saw lots of different, colorful fish...
but the reef itself was damaged by too much "human impact."

Wish it was sunnier!

...AND in the "food department"...
David found the most wonderful, off-the-beaten-path lunch spot.
The Garden Cafe (in Santa Fe terms)
...a combination of Vinaigrette, Body and Annapurna.

Kalua pork tacos w/kale garnish

Bizarre looking Okinawa sweet potato pie

 A very happy diner ....

David at the Garden Cafe, Kauai

Oh, I forgot to mention...the successful search for a Taro Burger.
...found at a food truck in downtown Hanalei.

@HanaleiTaro ....yummy

After Tunnels Beach, we took the "easy way out"
and returned to the upstairs porch of Bouchons...
and had some intriguing "martinis"....

Nigori sake in a Martini glass..brilliant!

Ahi tuna "martini"

Finished up with a yummy, yummy dessert....
Tempura bananas/carmel/chocolate pencil

Having fun blogging, but it sure does take a long time!!
Hope you're all enjoying it!
